Pokémon Go is a free-to-play mobile game that uses a player’s real-world location to drive gameplay. Developed by Niantic for both iOS and Android devices, this location-based augmented reality game was first released in most regions in July 2016.
Playing Pokémon Go is simple: your phone will vibrate when a Pokémon is nearby, alerting you to a potential catch. Throw a Poké Ball to catch Pokémon, but stay alert—quick action is needed or it may escape!
To capture as many Pokémon as possible, you are encouraged to explore cities and towns—both where you live and around the world. The main view while playing is a real-time map based on the actual streets and pathways of your location, perfectly blending the game world with the real world to deliver a truly location-based augmented reality experience.
The map provides valuable information for exploration. You’ll always be in the center of the map. Use it to find PokeStops, Gyms, the location of nearby Pokémon, and more!
Pokémon on Earth
Pokémon have entered our planet Earth! Now take your chance and capture Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Pikachu, and many others all around you. Step outside your home, start exploring your neighbourhood, and discover everything it has to offer. Later, you can join one of the three teams and battle for the ownership of the Gyms.
Search the surroundings
Pokémon are often found in environments that match their type — Water-type Pokémon, for instance, appear near lakes and oceans. Traveling away from home increases your chances of encountering rare or region-specific Pokémon. Explore real-world landmarks and attractions by visiting PokéStops, often located at places like galleries, art installations, historical markets, and monuments.
Moreover, Pokémon love places like public parks and recreation areas. To navigate these spots, use the in-game map — your primary tool for exploration. The map mirrors real-world city layouts and provides valuable information, with your location always at the center. When you’re close enough to a PokéStop, the blue square will expand, allowing you to collect items from it.
Load Up Your Bag
Access your Bag in the Map view by touching the Poké Ball icon. The kinds of items you’ll keep in your Bag include Poké Balls, medicines, Berries, and more. (Eggs will not appear in your Bag.) You can also access your Bag during Pokémon encounters. Each item comes with a description explaining its use.
Level Up Your Trainer
Catch as many Pokémon as possible to earn Experience Points (XP) and level up as a Trainer! The XP awarded for each capture depends on the type of Pokémon, whether it’s a new catch or a repeat, and the precision of your throw. As you level up, you’ll unlock more advanced items like Great Balls, improving your chances of catching Pokémon. Keep exploring and encountering Pokémon to advance your Trainer level!
Earn Medals
A difference of challenges is available, showcasing different accomplishments, such as the number of Pokémon you’ve caught and the distance you’ve traveled. By completing these challenges, you’ll unlock achievement medals that will be noticeable in your player profile. Aim to unlock as many medals as possible!
You catch them, hatch them, grow them …
As you progress, you can catch stronger Pokémon to complete your Pokédex. Expand your collection by hatching Eggs based on the distance you walk. Catching multiple Pokémon of the same type helps them evolve faster. Don’t go to the PokéStop if it’s on private property! There will be more of them just around the corner – don’t worry!
Start Gym battles and defend your Gym.
As your Charmander evolves to Charmeleon and then Charizard, you can battle together to defeat a Gym and assign your Pokémon to defend it against all comers. It’s time now for your real-life adventures!
