FL Studio โ€“ Music Production Software

FL Studio is a fully featured, open-architecture music creation and production environment for PC. It features a graphical user interface that is based on a music sequencer.

This digital audio workstation has everything you need in one package to compose, arrange, record, edit, mix, and master professional-quality music.

FL Studio is the fastest way from your brain to your speakers. No additional software is required to produce any style of music, as a complete set of instruments and studio tools is included in the package cost.

With the included plugins, sounds, and tools the user can create complete songs, backing tracks, loops, or sizzling beats. The software offers VST (Virtual Studio Technology), which makes it compatible with other workstations.

FL Studio 20 can be a remote control for transferring data between digital audio workstations (DAWs). It features powerful generators, including drum machines and samplers, and numerous plugins, many of which operate independently.

FL Studio will play any sample file (wav), generator (softsynth), VSTi, and DXi) or midi instrument you feed it. You will create WAV, MP3, or MIDI songs and loops just minutes after launching.

What can FL Studio do:

  • Audio editing and manipulation encompass pitch correction, shifting, harmonization, time-stretching, beat detection, slicing, audio warping, and standard manipulation (cut, paste, etc.).
  • Automate most interface and plugin parameters using features such as recording, drawing, spline-based automation curves, and automation generators with formula-based control links.
  • Live music performance including video effect visualization.
  • Mix and remix audio, incorporating real-time effects such as delay, reverb, and filtering.
  • Multi-track audio recording.
  • Record and play MIDI input recordings from keyboards, drum pads, and controllers.
  • Sequencing and arranging.
  • Synthesizer and effect plugin hosting (VST 32-bit and 64-bit, DX and FL Native format)

You can use FL Studio 24 as a scratchpad for your ideas or to produce completely mastered tracks ready for publication. The distinguishing aspect of this program is its pattern-based workflow. The lower part of the sequencing window contains block patterns of notes while the upper part contains clips that hold notes, data, and events. For this reason, you can use it in electronic genres to create various effects.

Another distinguishing feature is the score logger which maintains a 3-minute buffer between all incoming MIDI notes. A filter allows users to select which notes, automation, and audio data to record.

FL Studio 20 comes in three editions. The developer includes lifetime free updates so customers can download future releases.

Whatโ€™s New in FL Studio 24.2 :

  • FL Studio
    • Improved Unlock โ€“ The unlock process is now more automated if you have previously logged into your account. Trial users can now create an account to gain access to online features as part of the unlock process.
    • FL Studio macOS Menu โ€“ Items from the Main Menu are added to the macOS Application Menu. Returns after a brief holiday to Ibiza.
    • Tap Tempo โ€“ Use the ‘Apply Tempo’ option to prevent tapping from changing the project’s tempo. This helps identify the tempo of the audio being played.
    • Tempo detection โ€“ When Tempos are detected there is an option to ignore decimals.
    • Metronome โ€“ New โ€˜Pulseโ€™ sound, suited to audio recording.
    • Time Panel โ€“ Added SMPTE options, (Right-Click) to set.
    • Hint bar โ€“ Shows the Project file name instead of the author name in the Hint Bar if no Title is set for increased privacy.
    • Icons: Clap, Snap, and Zero icons were added to locations where users can select icons in Rename dialogs.
    • Command line โ€“ Ignore the Projectโ€™s Backup folder when the command line is rendering unless the /B option is used.
    • macOS Fullscreen Shortcut โ€“ Changed (Ctrl+Cmd+F).
    • Welcome Window โ€“ Opt-in or opt-out of anonymous data collection. You can see what we are interested to know and why here. NOTE: We are not collecting your creative works. We want to know which plugins and features you use to create them.
    • ASIO4ALL โ€“ ASIO4ALL has been removed from the installer and must be installed separately, if necessary.
  • FL Cloud
    • Sounds โ€“ Added support for hot-swapping ‘Placeholder’ samples by selecting ‘Hot Swap’ mode and clicking samples in the list. This will send them to the selected Sampler Channel or Audio Clip. Additionally, drag-and-drop workflow is supported with DirectWave, Edison, FPC, Granulizer, NewTime, Sampler Channels, Scratcher, Slicer, Wave Traveller, Convolver, Slicex, and Wave Traveller.
  • Playlist & Piano roll:
    • Ghost Notes โ€“ The Piano roll can now show Ghost Notes from other Patterns if the Pattern clips overlap in the Playlist. Supporting is a Ghost Note โ€˜Channelsโ€™ selector on the upper-right side of the Piano roll window to decide what Channels show. You can also use the Playlist Track headers (Right-Click) > ‘Show patterns as PR ghosts‘ to choose which Playlist Tracks to display. NOTE: Out-of-pattern Ghost Notes are outlined notes, and in-pattern are solid notes.
    • Snap MIDI to Scale โ€“ (Right-Click) option on the Piano roll > Snap to the key menu to snap incoming MIDI to the same settings as the Piano roll.
    • Find stacked Clips & Notes โ€“ Option to โ€˜Select stacked clipsโ€™ (in the Playlist) and โ€˜Select stacked notesโ€™ (in the Piano roll). Stacked means 100% overlap, and is in addition to โ€˜Overlappingโ€™ Notes and Clips.
    • Picker Panel Pattern colors โ€“ The (Right-Click) Pattern option > โ€˜Colorโ€™ selected Patterns changes colors without the name-change dialog pop-up. It will also open the full-color selection window when you use ‘Change color’ on audio or automation clips.
    • Automated Track Names โ€“ FL Studio will use the Playlist track’s name for an audio track if the destination mixer track doesn’t have a name.
    • Extract stems โ€“ It sets the name and icon of created Playlist Stem Tracks to match the stem type. Additionally, the โ€˜Safe modeโ€˜ option for some CPUs can avoid crashes and erroneous audio on systems experiencing issues.
    • Chord progression tool โ€“ Changing the inversion number ignores the Root in all cases.
  • Mixer:
    • Monitoring โ€“ A low-latency track mode for live performance and recording has been added. This mode, called ‘Delay Audio Output,’ disables Plugin Delay Compensation (PDC) during live monitoring but retains latency correction for rendering and recording.
    • Routing โ€“ New (Right-Click) option > Select > โ€˜Channels and playlist tracks routed to this trackโ€™ to help with Instrument and Audio Track workflow.
  • Channel Rack
    • Browse channel states โ€“ You can now open Channel Presets in the Browser via a new option in the Channel menu.
