eMule - Open Source P2P Downloader with Secure File Sharing

eMule is a popular, open-source P2P (peer-to-peer) file-sharing client for Microsoft Windows, launched in 2002 as an alternative to eDonkey2000. It allows you to connect with millions of users to download and share files. The program began operating on the ED2K and Kademlia Networks, supporting both semi-centralized and decentralized searches and operations. All of it is free and without any adware or advertising.

EMule is one of the biggest, oldest, and most reliable file-sharing clients worldwide. Thanks to its open source policy, many developers can contribute to the project, making the network more efficient with each release.

The app’s key features include direct source exchange between client nodes, rapid recovery of corrupted downloads, and a credit system that rewards frequent uploaders.

Furthermore, the application transmits data in zlib-compressed form to save bandwidth. The app is coded in Microsoft Visual C++ using the Microsoft Foundation Classes.

eMule is one of the biggest and most reliable P2P file-sharing clients worldwide. Many developers contribute to the project, so the network becomes increasingly efficient with each new version.

A list of a few eMule features available:

  • Clients use multiple networks to create a single reliable network. (ED2K, Source Exchange, Kad). Kad is now in an open test phase.
  • eMule’s Queue and Credit system helps ensure that everyone gets the file they want by rewarding those who upload to the network.
  • Completely free. eMule is also completely free of any Adware, Spyware, etc. We do this for fun and knowledge, not for money.
  • Each file is checked for corruption while downloading to ensure an error-free download.
  • The Intelligent Corruption Control helps to speed up the correction of corrupted parts.
  • With automatic priorities and source management, you can start many downloads without watching them.
  • The Preview function allows you to look at your Videos and Archives before they are completed. For video previewing, we recommend the VideoLAN Client.
  • eMule includes web services and a web server that provide quick access over the internet.
  • You can create categories for your downloads to organize them.
  • Allows you to use very complex Boolean searches that make the searches much more flexible.
  • With the messaging and friend system, you can send messages to other Clients and add them as friends. In your friend list, you can always see if a friend is online.
  • With the built-in IRC client, you can chat with other downloaders and chatters around the globe.

  • Save and restore the folder name in the “View Shared Files” list
  • Fixed regressions; the most notable was in Ed2K hash calculation

What’s New in eMule 0.50a:

  • Added preferences.ini-only option “ExtraPreviewWithMenu” which makes eMule put the “Preview with” command into the root context menu rather than into the preview menu (only applies to extended controls with multiple preview programs set)
  • Added the “Open preferences.ini” button to the extended options. Remember that you have to close the app before saving any changes if you want to edit any non-preferences.ini-only settings.
