Ant Movie Catalog - Organize and Manage Your DVD, Blu-ray, and Movie Collection

Ant Movie Catalog is a free, open-source application designed to manage movie collections stored on Blu-ray discs, DVDs, CDs, Video CDs, and tapes. It also includes printing, import, and export features, scripting support, and other useful tools.

It can automatically create an HTML file, a CSV file, or SQL commands with the contents of the movie list. For each movie, you can enter lots of information manually or automatically via a script.

There are plenty of scripts you can choose from, including an IMDb one. Just select the IMDb script, type in the name of a movie, select the movie you want (there will be several movies that match the name you typed), and then let Ant Movie Catalog import that data for you.

It also has a handy random selection tool that will randomly pick a movie from your collection – that should come in handy when you want to watch a movie but can’t make up your mind about which one you want to watch.

Ant Movie Catalog Features:

  • Can store catalog in two file formats: its binary format or XML
  • Import information from the Internet (using scripts); by default, it includes scripts for IMDB (US), DVDFR (FR), Allociné (FR), Culturalia (ES), and lots of others
  • User-customizable links to search movie websites
  • Information importation from various media files (audio & video codecs, bitrates, resolution, framerate, size)
  • Supports scripting with the Object Pascal programming language, allowing you to modify the catalog by finding and replacing text, moving field values, and automating other editing tasks.
  • Printing, using customizable templates
  • Export to other formats: HTML (based on a template that you can modify or create yourself), SQL commands (to re-import data in a DBMS such as MySQL), CSV (text files, can be used as tables with Microsoft Excel, for example), Origons.com
  • Import from other formats: CSV (Microsoft Excel can create such files, but a plain text file can be used too), Divx Manager, BaseDVDivx, Origons.com, DVD Profiler (catalogs exported to XML)
  • Can store pictures inside the catalog or link to external files (recommended for large pictures)
  • Supports PNG, JPEG, and GIF
  • Loans management
  • Statistics with charts and pies
  • Can display the movie list as a tree, grouping movies by a selected field.
  • This is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later version.
  • Works on Windows 7 and higher (8 and 10), and should still work on some older versions.

The user interface is translated into about thirty languages.

Ant Movie Catalog – Pros & Cons

ProsCons
Organizes movie collections with detailed information, including cast, genres, release dates, ratings, and personal notes. Focused on movie cataloging rather than media playback or video editing, with no built-in tools for either.
Supports importing movie details from online databases, reducing the time required to build and maintain a media library. The interface feels dated compared to newer media library management applications.
Let users customize fields, templates, and catalog layouts to match their preferred collection management style. Some online database integrations may require updates or become unavailable as third-party services change over time.
Includes powerful search, filtering, and sorting tools that make it easy to locate movies within large collections. Setting up custom fields and templates can take time for first-time users.
Exports catalogs in multiple formats, making it simple to back up, print, or share movie databases. Best suited for personal movie collections rather than managing large commercial or multi-user media libraries.

What's New in Ant Movie Catalog 4.2.3.3 (2023-05-19):

  • Introduces the new GetPage4, GetPage5, and GetPicture3 functions, allowing users to specify the Content-Type and additional HTTP headers.
  • Support pages encoded with gzip.
  • Upgrade of MediaInfo.
